Raised with Reindeers
For many Sami families, summer offers an opportunity to gather. Nils Sara alongside other reindeer herders are preparing for the yearly ear marking ceremony. His children, Niilas Heaika, Mihkkal Ante and Inga, are encouraged to participate as calves are marked with a unique series of cuts to identify them as part of the family herd. Inga, at 6 years old, watches her brothers catch and mark calves and learns more about her Sami reindeer culture.
